4.2 - The Story

Read all your responses to the exercise activities. If possible, print out all you have written.

This will make it easier to group the writings into the three sections below.

You will be creating your story arc.

The Beginning

What you want to show your readers about you to help them see how you got to be the person you are .

Consider including responses from SECTION 1.

But don’t limit yourself to those, especially if you think other responses would fit.

The Middle

The obstacles you faced such as people who helped and people who got in your way, actions you took to overcome the complications, your struggle to overcome.

Consider including responses from SECTION 2.

Again, don’t limit yourself to those, especially if you think other responses would fit.

The End

Who you are today and how you have changed from the early you?

Consider including responses from SECTION 3.

Again, don’t limit yourself to those, especially if you think other responses would fit.

You now should have a first draft of your memoir.

Put it aside for a few days or a week.

Come back in a week to read it.

Focus on the content, not technical aspects.

Revise and edit as you see fit.

Put it aside for a few days or a week.

Come back to it in a week and read again.

Revise as you see fit.

Put it aside again, then come back to it.

This time read for spelling, grammar, mechanics and correct as you go.

Finally, read the entire memoir. You should now have completed work.

You might want to have someone else read it and offer their comments, corrections, and reviews.

Take them, use them to improve or don’t, and read it one more time.

Make any changes you want.

Congratulations!

You have put your story in writing

and made it available for anyone you care to share it with.

Great Work!
