All About Me

After retiring from teaching, with lots of time on my hands, I turned to volunteering. As part of an organization called Interfaith Caregivers, I began interacting with older adults, helping them with shopping, driving them to appointments, or just spending time visiting and talking with them. I saw how diverse and interesting their lives were, and I thought their telling the stories of their lives could benefit their families, friends, and most importantly, themselves. And Memory Crafters was born. The service would help these adults preserve their stories in written form and make them available for family, friends, and anyone else they might want to share with by crafting their memoirs and creating a treasured memory.

I  enjoyed a career that spanned thirty-five years in the world of public education teaching English Language Arts and Writing and have drawn on my observations from that world to create the three novels Class, Coffee, & Confrontation, Vice & Voice, and Memories & Messes in the No Red Pens series of stories with Kassi (Kasia) Stanton as Canon Bel, a literary superhero.

During my career, I was involved in or observed the education system as teacher, chairperson, cooperating teacher, mentor, coach, curriculum writer, evaluator, and parent. I interacted with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and politicians who affected and were affected by the system, some selfishly but more unselfishly.

I majored in Education in college, found a teaching position, and continued on to earn a Masters Degree in English.

Beyond the obvious connection to literature in my career, I am an avid reader of all types of fiction and nonfiction. The thought that there are people in the world who take pride in never having finished reading a book saddens me. During my teaching career, if I could inspire students to read stories, classics or popular, I considered my work a success. Now, if I can inspire and help older adults to tell and write their stories, I will consider my new venture a success.
